Impact With Purpose
I have a question for you today… What do you want your impact on the world to be? Each of us impacts the world in some way, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. So, answer that and the rest is pretty simple. What do you want Your Impact to be?
I have a great idea of how you and I can do that every day. Let’s start with our epitaph. That’s right, our epitaph. What words do you want on your tombstone? Come up with that answer and work backwards from there. Your answer will help you find and define your personal vision.
For example, do you want to be remembered as a wonderful parent, or as a thoughtful spouse who took care of others, or as an entrepreneur who made a difference in people’s lives, or as a leader known for their compassion, their humility, their grace? There are many ways you can do to just illustrate this exercise, but I do believe that anyone who seeks to achieve something great needs a personal vision. It can give you a direction guided by what is in your heart, and what is in your soul. When you find it, you will discover what is important. You will discover what is significant. You will discover what is meaningful in your life.
Just remember this, goals are useful, but you cannot live a life of significance at the goal level. For a life of significance, you and I have to live at the Level of Purpose. It’s not about our actions that generate for us the best meaning in life, it’s about our heart and soul caring for other people.
I love the quote from Dr. John Maxwell. He’s a bestselling author, a leadership expert, recognized around the world. He says…
Leadership isn’t about winning, it’s about bringing people with you, to the finish line.
Here’s to you reaching you own finish line every day, with other people, right by your side, holding their hands and marching onwards and forward in a meaningful and purposeful way. That my friend is true impact. Have a great week!
