Character

You and I live in a world that values the importance of winning.  Winning!  But we need to remember that how we play the game is the way that we are defined as human beings, as leaders.  To be competitive, yes for sure, but always treat people with integrity, and honesty, and fairness.  Then they'll respect us and they want to do business with us.  No matter how the game of life changes, Trust Will Always Be A Talent.  Every player needs trust — being a trustworthy person, trusting others in relationships.

When I think about the importance of trust and treating people fairly, I think about Bob Brown.  Bob is the chairman of a significant international public relations company based in North Carolina.  He was an advisor, a coach, to many significant leaders in our world, people like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.  Bob Brown helped heal the racial divisions of our world, and he has made an incredible impact, incredible influence wherever he went.

He talks about the person who influenced him the most, his grandmother.  His grandmother would say to him, "Bobby, you cannot go wrong doing right.”  Listen to that… You Cannot Go Wrong Doing Right.  When you do that, when you do the right things, you'll see the results that you want in life come your way.  Bob says, “That's guaranteed.  Life gives you back what you send out.”

I've read that the future will be built on well-worn paths between neighbors.  I believe that.  Your future, my future, they're built around what we want, but they must be built around who we are.  It's that that makes the foundational principle for life and living.  Our character is the very foundation of the life we build.  Someone once said…

Reputation is what people think you are.  Character is what God knows you are.

Have a great week.
